Alto Golf is located between the town of Portim�o, the fishing village of Alvor and the sea, it's close enough to give the player an occasional sea view during some shots. A simple par-3 opens your round but it is deceiving to what is in store. The course is considered a reasonable test of a player�s ability with strategic bunkers, dog-legs, elevated greens and well placed trees. A further noteworthy challenge is the par-5 on the sixteenth that is considered to be one of the longest holes in Europe. After the third roundabout keep to the left hand side and go down and through a short tunnel. Keep straight on and about 1 km later road curves to the left and feeds into another road. Keep straight and on the second roundabout with fountain turn right into a dual carriageway going west. At the next roundabout turn to the right and the course entrance is about 0.4 kms on the right side off a smaller roundabout. It is so easy to hit what you think is a good shot only for it to run through a log leg & be in big trouble. But give it a go you WILL enjoy it (particularly the second time)!! John Buck - Rated 7/10 (30 October 2008) Played this course last week, whilst on holiday, and we weren't altogether impressed with it. Greens: very slow, bobbly, with grass very long. Fairways: spongey and soggy in places Tees: unkept Services: no water fountains, no on-course refreshments, which is pretty standard on other Portuguese courses I think the club is in the midst of a takeover so maybe the current owners have neglected it somewhat. shame, as the layout is nice and potential is there.
